“With languages, you are at home anywhere”
– Edmund du Waal
At Unfound Africa, we’re more than a conservation ideology – we’re a family. As such, we want to look after those around us.
Communication is the cornerstone of running any business. At our retreats, we want to know that you feel right at home and can find assistance at any time during your stay, or feel free to ask us anything.
On the other hand, our team needs to be on the same page as you at all times, which is why we decided to take action.
Opening the Doors of Education
We enlisted the help of a local high school teacher to join us at Pebane, the land base of Ilha do Fogo, to help teach our staff English. Once the course is completed after three months, members of our team will have a good grasp of the English language, a skill that they can use to not only communicate with guests, but also utilise throughout their lives in any capacity they choose.
Why English?
English, ranks within the top 5 of the most spoken languages in the world. Portuguese, which is the home language of most of our employees, is in the top 10.
Many of our guests use English as their native language, making this such an important step for our business growth, customer experience and hospitality offering.
On the other hand, several of our guests may not be fluent in English, but will know enough to get by, which is why we want to provide our employees with the opportunity to communicate with those guests effectively too.
